The computerization of blood transfusion in these 21 hospitals is part of the AP-HP's "Clinical Information System" project, which will install an electronic medical records System (EMR) and ancillary systems in each of their establishments. This multi-million euro award is led by Agfa Healthcare, which directs the consortium that also includes Cap Gemini, HP, Oracle and Global Med-Inlog.

Benoit Leclercq, Chief Executive Officer of the AP-HP, commented about the Clinical Information System: "I am pleased with this collaboration, which results in a significant improvement in the handling of patients."

EdgeTrack will ensure the complete tracking of blood products with real time communication with the computerized Agfa EMR System, ORBIS. The application will interface with the French Blood Establishment (EFS) which is also equipped with the Global Med-Inlog complete blood management solution, EdgeBlood. All 2,2 million units of blood collected in France are processed by the EdgeBlood product, marketed as "CTS Serveur" in France.

Since EdgeTrack was introduced into the market in 1995 as "Hemo Serveur", it has become a leading hospital transfusion and traceability information management system in France with more than 100 licensed hospitals. EdgeTrack is connected with most laboratory management systems and hospital information systems, and is integrated with major blood transfusion information systems.

Thomas F. Marcinek, President and Chief Operating Officer for Global Med Technologies, commented: "We are honoured to be part of one of the largest health care information technology projects in Europe, and to have been chosen to collaborate on this ambitious project by such an elite group of health care technology companies as Agfa and Cap Gemini. We look forward to supporting AP-HP facilities with quality products and services as they continue to provide excellent, advanced health care to patients and the Paris community."
