In the USA, two regional transmission and generation cooperatives are partnering in a new regional services company (ServCo), called Cooperative ConNEXTions LLC. This strategic support services company will provide a wide range of facilities to its customers, such as for instance telephone, television, Internet, system monitoring, equipment financing, appliance repair and service, home security with medical alert, and interactive learning. Also telemedicine will form an important part of the package.
Both ConNEXTions partners want to combine into one organisation the resources and market leverage necessary to offer the extensive service package, including technical and marketing support, to members and non members, according to Basin Electric Power Cooperative, the first partnering company which is based in Bismarck. It has more than 100 member cooperatives that supply electricity for about 1.5 million people in South Dakota and seven other Midwestern and Western states.
Second partner is Tri-State Generation and Transmission Association, headquartered in Denver. It provides power to 32 rural electric systems in Colorado, Wyoming and Nebraska, serving about 650.000 people. Cooperative ConNEXTions in turn will become a partner of Touchstone Energy, which is a national, unified brand to be launched this year by the American electric cooperatives. Touchstone Energy and Cooperative ConNEXTions share the same mission in their goal to strengthen the power of human connections between end-user and distribution cooperative.
