Shared Medical Systems to acquire Pyrénées Informatique and sign marketing agreement with IBM

Pyrénées Informatique S.A., headquartered in Biarritz, will benefit from the experience of the two new global partners with regard to respectively SMS' knowhow of health care systems and IBM's varied range of hardware, software and service offerings. Particularly in the French market, this 21 year old company has an excellent reputation in the building of HIS, which are dealing with both administrative and medical system management.

President and founder of Pyrénées Informatique, Yvon LeFlohic, believes that the cooperation between the three companies will guarantee an improved quality in both delivery and support service for the more than 500 customers of the Biarritz based HIS provider. For IBM, the acquisition as well as the agreement form a terrific occasion to better focus on hospital applications whereas SMS hopes to strengthen its position in Europe, where the company already has extended its client base to 1300 hospitals.

Currently, IBM disposes of a well established global Health care Industry Solution Unit, which still will be reinforced by means of the strategic relationship with SMS. The mutual support between Pyrénées Informatique, SMS and IBM will optimize the overall quality of hospital information systems within Europe.
