The Journal of ITIS Letters - A New concept in publishing research activities

The Journal of ITIS letters
represents a new concept in publishing research activities and concentrates on the domain of the Telemedical Information Society. Sponsored by Elsevier Science it is based on web technology which subsequently allows the authors to utilise all the standard web-based techniques to express their ideas. Not restricted only to static graphics and text, the authors may encorporate audio, movies, VRML and even hyperlinks. The rationale of the Journal of ITIS letters
is to present leading edge research activities consciely and quickly. Its objective is to proliferate the uptake of new developments and maximise their impact. Each ITIS letter will be refereed by two experts and an invited specialist. The duration from submission to publication, including refereeing, will be less than 4 weeks. Attached to each published ITIS letter will be a forum/discussion section allowing readers to express an opinion. Outstanding contributions will be invited to submit for a special issue of the traditional journal of Future Generation Computer Systems (FGCS). The Journal of ITIS letters
therefore provides an alternative medium to present refereed publications without incuring the time delay associated with traditional journal publications or the financial obligations associated with conferenece publications. The aim of the Journal of ITIS Letters
is therefore to provide an on-line dissemination of research activities by making refereed publications accessible to even research groups on low budgets and authors wishing to proliferate the uptake of their results.
