ITIS Letters - General Information

Objective

The Journal of International Telemedical Information Society (ITIS) Letters will publish on the Web refereed papers in the domain of ITIS. Traditional journals usually have a 8-month publishing period and the alternative conferences are becoming expensive for research groups on low budgets. The rationale of the Journal of ITIS Letters is to rapidly publish research material with a low cost overhead. Articles will be published, within a 4 week review period, on research issues related to ITIS which covers topics including: storage of medical data, privacy & security, legal & ethic issues, culture issues, transmission & medical data, telecollaboration, electronic healthcare records, visualisation & manipulation of medical data, interactive with and prediction of medical data, related computing issues, medical compression, medical data archival, data warehousing of medical data, education & training, knowledge discovery, communication & accessibility issues, standardisation issues and finally usage and telemedical applications.
The Journal of ITIS Letters has the support of Elsevier science publishers and the well-established Journal of Future Generation Computer Systems (FGCS). Journal Letters will act as a catalyst to promote dissemination and uptake of leading edge research activities. Each published Letter will have an associated forum that will allow readers to express their opinions concerning the article. Published letters will be restricted to 2000 words, but many contain all publicly supported Web-technologies such as movies and hyperlinks. Additionally, periodically a number of Journal Letter publications will be invited to submit a full paper to a special issue of the traditional FGCS journal.

Purpose

The World Wide Web (WWW) will become one of the major informational resources of the 21st century. The potential and possibilities of the WWW also allows authors to express their work in a variety of media that are not restricted to the traditional static hard copy format. The information society in general and especially a telemedical information society is one discipline that could benefit from a proliferated uptake of research ideas, the Web can act as the dissemination media and when combined with Web publishing provide the catalyst to promote the rapid introduction of the latest leading edge research technologies into the related communities.

Article Submission

The journal of ITIS letters represents a new concept in refereed publications. It will be totally based on using Web technologies both in its presentation and evaluation. Authors will be expected to submit their articles in electronic form as a Web page. The format is detailed in the Instructions to Authors. The author(s) may make use of all publicly supported Web technologies (such as movies and hyperlinks) to present the work.

The accepted refereed letters will be published on the journal Web site. To each published letter there will be the addition of a forum section that will allow comments to be associated with each letter. It is envisaged that this will promote on-line discussions related to the published work.
